Service Description

This 4-week research course is designed to equip students with knowledge on how to begin independent research projects. The course will provide an overview on the research process from competitions to publications. Resources garnered by the instructors over their years of experience will be provided to every student. Week 1: Introduction to Research & Publications • Selecting a research topic • Finding a lab and mentor • Skills for effective academic reading • How to master lab techniques • How to write an academic paper • Submitting to conferences Week 2: Getting Started with Computational Work • Introduction to programming • Learning to self-study • Topics in statistics and data analysis • Applications of computational research • Applying to summer programs Week 3: Succeeding in STEM Competitions • Introduction to STEM competitions • Designing a presentation poster • Skills for effective presentations • How to answer judges’ questions • How to prepare for Olympiads Week 4: Crafting a Perfect College Application • Leveraging internships and competitions for applications • Creating a college list • Building a resume for STEM • Framing activities and awards • Effective communication in interviews
